Korean-American tenor Sammy Huh is a performer and teacher based in the Mid-Atlantic Region. He has received praise for his “delectable top notes” (DC Metro Theatre Arts) and a voice described as “powerful . . . conjuring up an extraordinarily delicate sweetness” (Communities Digital News). He received his Bachelor of Music from The Juilliard School and Master of Music with the University of Maryland-Opera Studio. Since fall of 2016, he has served as Voice Professor and Director of Opera Workshop at University of Maryland - Baltimore County. Starting in fall 2021, he serves as the Director of Choral Activities at Paint Branch High School in Montgomery County Public Schools. A passionate advocate for financial education, he is an investor in business (RPM Underground) and real estate.
Mr. Huh has made solo appearances at institutions such as Washington National Opera at The Kennedy Center, Washington Concert Opera, Maryland Lyric Opera, Chautauqua Opera Company, Aspen Opera Theatre Center, Opera Camerata of Washington, The In-Series Opera, The Virginia Consort, Maryland Opera Studio, Washington Opera Society, Juilliard Opera, Central Maryland Chorale and President's Residence at University of Maryland. He has presented recitals at venues such as Lincoln Center - Alice Tully Hall, Washington College, Arts Club of Washington, Embassy of South Korea, The Mansion at Strathmore and Smithsonian American Art Museum - Renwick Gallery. He received his apprenticeship training at young artist programs such as Chautauqua Opera Company, Aspen Opera Theatre Center, and Manhattan Summer Voice Festival.
As a tenor opera chorister, he sings professionally with Washington National Opera at The Kennedy Center, Washington Concert Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, Maryland Lyric Opera and is a union member of the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA). He has sung in masterclasses with Daniel Ferro, Malcolm Martineau, Mignon Dunn, Mark Padmore, and Anne Manson. He is the recipient of awards from the Enrico Caruso Memorial Scholarship, National Society of Arts and Letters, Young Singers Foundation and the Lucrezia Bori Grant.
